The habit evolved, such a long time ago,
a means of coping, when the spirit was low.
A friend and an ally, in times of need,
through laughter and tears, it remained in good steed.
From childhood till now, the grip has been strong,
wielding it's power, holding you where you belong.
A practice of fear, unknown to all,
soothing discomfort, and creating a wall.
In many forms, it begins to appear,
the core of the soul, it;s ever so near.
Serving to hold, your sanity so frail,
distorted perceptions, will cause you to fail.
To break the habit, a decision is made,
one day at a time, a price is then paid.
On the first day, all seems to be well,
then anxiety begins, to boil and to swell.
Instructing the mind,to get a defense,
caught up in a war, that will never relent.
Boredom sets in, and you start to feel lost,
it all seems to hard, and to hard a cost.
With white knuckles and grit, you hang in for the ride,
moisten brows, it feels that you've died.
Once you get through, the first single stage,
confidence gained, as you turn a new page.
Two steps forward, and one step back,
the creature of habit, will then start to crack.
The grace of god, then begins to expel,
darkness's demons, that have trapped you in hell.
Peace then descends, right into the soul,
self understanding, start playing it's role.
The human condition, once varacious and weak,
gains back it's integrity, from being a freak.
